Ancient large tree, 40-60 feet in height with a 30-40 foot spread. Unusual fan-shaped leaf. Has a bright gold fall color.
Prefers sandy soils, very pH adapatable.
Slow to moderate growth rate. Use fruitless (male) varieties. Fruit is messy and malodorous. Does well in urban environments. Earth's most primitive broad-leaved tree. Fossils as old as 65 million years are identical to today's trees.
